The drawer isn't showing on my store
Updated Sep 10, 20264 min read
Five things stop the drawer from rendering, in the order they are worth checking: the app embed is off, the cart is a draft, the embed is enabled on a different theme than the one you are viewing, Shopify is still serving a cached page, or the cart does not claim the market you are browsing from.
Work down the list. Each check takes under a minute.
1. The app embed is off
The drawer reaches your storefront through a theme app embed. Without it, nothing renders no matter how the cart is configured — and it fails silently, because the editor preview keeps working either way.
The app tells you when it spots this. On a draft cart you see a quiet note, "The drawer only shows on your store once its app embed is enabled in your theme." On a live cart it is a warning: "Cart is active, but the Hype Cart Drawer app embed is off in your theme, so shoppers still see your theme's cart. Enable the embed and click Save in the theme editor."
To fix it:
- Click Enable embed on that banner, or Enable in theme in the setup guide on the home page.
- Turn on Hype: Cart Drawer in the theme editor.
- Click Save in the theme editor.
- Go back to the Hype tab. The banner clears itself when you return.
Forgetting the theme editor's own Save is the single most common cause. Toggling the embed on is not enough.
2. The cart is a Draft
A draft cart publishes nothing. Check the badge next to the cart's name: Draft or Active.
Open the cart and click Activate, or use Activate in the Cart actions menu on the home page. See Activating and scheduling a cart.
If the cart is scheduled, check the window has actually started — the Scope column on the home page shows it.
3. The embed is on a different theme
The app checks the theme selected in Settings → Theme, described there as "Select the theme where we should check if embeds and app blocks are turned on."
Two versions of this problem:
- You enabled the embed on your live theme but Hype is checking a different one. The setup guide keeps showing the step as incomplete even though your storefront is fine.
- You enabled the embed on a duplicate or draft theme and are browsing the live one. The guide looks complete and the storefront shows nothing.
Fix it by selecting the right theme in Settings, and by making sure the embed is on for the theme you are actually viewing. If you publish a new theme, enable the embed on it too — theme app embeds do not carry across when you publish a copy.
On a demo theme, the app cannot verify anything, and says so: "This is a DEMO theme, so we can't verify whether Hype is enabled. Please ensure it's enabled in your theme settings."
4. Shopify is still serving a cached page
Storefront pages come out of Shopify's cache, and saving in Hype does not clear it. A change usually appears within minutes and occasionally takes longer; reloading does not force it.
Wait a few minutes and check again in a fresh browsing session. See My changes aren't visible on the storefront yet.
5. The cart doesn't claim your market
If the cart's Activation is set to Specific markets, shoppers outside those markets see nothing from it. Set Markets to All markets, or add the market you are browsing from.
You can check this before publishing: pick a market under Preview settings → Market in the editor. If the cart does not claim it, the preview says "This cart doesn't target the selected market. Shoppers there will see another active cart, or none."
Still nothing?
Turn on Debug logging in the editor's Behavior panel, save, reload your storefront and open your browser's console. The drawer logs what it is doing. Include that output when you contact support, then turn the setting off again.
If your theme's cart opens instead of Hype's, that is a different problem — see The theme's cart still opens.
