Uninstalling Hype
Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read
Uninstalling Hype Cart Drawer deletes your configuration in Hype — campaigns, offers, carts, blocks and settings — and reinstalling does not bring it back. If you are uninstalling to stop paying, cancel your subscription from the Plan page instead: it costs nothing, and you keep everything you have set up.
Before you uninstall, read this
The most expensive support tickets Hype gets are from merchants who uninstalled between sales to save money, then reinstalled and found their setup gone. There is no undo and no backup to restore from.
If your reason is money, you almost certainly do not need to uninstall:
- Under 101 paid orders in a cycle costs nothing anyway. A quiet month is already free.
- Cancelling from the Plan page stops all future charges and leaves the app installed with your work intact. See Cancelling and refunds.
- Deactivating what you have built — campaigns, offers, upsells or carts — stops everything running, without touching the install or the subscription.
If you are uninstalling anyway, export or screenshot anything you would hate to rebuild first.
How to uninstall
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels.
- Find Hype Cart Drawer.
- Click Uninstall and confirm.
What happens immediately
- Every permission is revoked. Hype Cart Drawer can no longer read or change anything on your store.
- Your configuration is deleted. The campaigns, offers, carts, blocks and settings you built in Hype Cart Drawer are removed, along with the connection between your store and Hype.
- Anything Hype Cart Drawer put on your storefront stops. Its discounts stop applying and its blocks stop rendering.
- Anything the app added to your theme or checkout stays there. Shopify does not remove app blocks, app embeds or checkout blocks when an app goes. They render nothing, but if you want them gone, remove them yourself in the theme editor under App embeds, in each template, and in Shopify's checkout editor.
What happens to billing
- The subscription is cancelled. Nothing further is charged.
- Charges already posted for the current cycle stand; they are not refunded.
- Your charge history is kept so that both sides have a record of what was billed. It is not used for anything else, and it is removed when Shopify's data-erasure request for your store is processed. Shopify sends that request itself after an uninstall, on its own schedule.
If Hype Cart Drawer holds a Hype Suite subscription, uninstalling it ends the Suite for all four apps. The others keep working until their confirmed access date passes, then stop. See The Hype Suite subscription.
What happens to the other Hype apps
Nothing. Each Hype app has its own data and its own subscription, so uninstalling one leaves the others untouched — with the Suite exception above.
Reinstalling
You can reinstall at any time from the Shopify App Store. You will get a fresh, empty install: new permission screen, empty campaign list, default settings, and any theme app embed off again. Any promotional offer you have already used — a launch offer, for instance — is not granted a second time.
If you only want to pause
The cheapest pause, in order of how much you keep:
- Deactivate individual campaigns, offers or carts. Everything stays, nothing runs.
- Turn off the Hype app embed in your theme, if Hype Cart Drawer has one. Everything on the storefront stops at once.
- Cancel the subscription on the Plan page. Access runs to the end of the cycle; after that, the app's pages ask you to choose a plan again before you can use them. Your configuration survives untouched and comes straight back when you resubscribe.
Uninstalling is the only option that destroys your work. Keep it for when you genuinely want the app gone.
