What data Hype can access
Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read
Hype Cart Drawer asks for read-only permissions. It cannot change anything in your Shopify admin — no products, no discounts, no orders. Below is the full list in plain words, with what each one is actually used for.
What Hype Cart Drawer can read
| Permission | What it can read | Why it needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Products | Products, variants and collections | For the product pickers in the drawer editor, and to render product previews inside the drawer. |
| Markets | Your Shopify Markets | So a drawer, a goal or an offer can be targeted at particular markets. |
| Languages | The languages your store publishes | To show the translate tabs for the drawer's text. |
| Themes | Your themes and their settings files | To check whether the Hype: Cart Drawer app embed is turned on, and to show the theme picker in Settings. |
| Orders | Orders as they are created | Two uses: counting paid orders for billing, and measuring which drawer designs convert. |
Orders are protected customer data under Shopify's rules, so this permission is reviewed and approved by Shopify before the app is allowed to request it.
What Hype Cart Drawer can change
Nothing in your Shopify admin.
Hype Cart Drawer requests no write permission at all. The only things it writes are its own app-owned settings, attached to the app's installation on your store — the drawer configuration your storefront reads. Those are private to Hype Cart Drawer, are not visible in your admin, and need no permission from you because they are the app's own data rather than yours.
The practical consequence: Hype Cart Drawer cannot break your catalog, your discounts or your orders, because it has no way to write to them.
What Hype Cart Drawer cannot do
- Take payments, issue refunds, or see card or payment details. Shopify never exposes those to any app.
- Create, edit or delete products, discounts, or orders.
- Read your customers or customer segments.
- Read your Shopify staff accounts or their passwords.
- Change your store's settings, plan or domain.
- Edit your theme's code. The drawer is rendered by the Hype: Cart Drawer app embed, which you turn on and off yourself in the theme editor.
- Access other apps' data.
It also cannot see which member of your staff is using it. Hype identifies your store, not the individual signed in, which is why an in-app support conversation belongs to the store rather than to a person.
What the drawer does on your storefront
The drawer replaces your theme's cart when you activate one. It reads the shopper's cart from Shopify's own cart endpoints in the browser — the same data your theme already has — and does not send a shopper's personal details anywhere.
Turning off the Hype: Cart Drawer app embed in your theme stops the drawer entirely, immediately, without uninstalling anything.
Where the data goes
- Your configuration — drawer designs, goals, offers, settings — is stored by Hype so the app works.
- Order events are used to measure how the drawer performs and to count paid orders for billing.
- Nothing is sold to anyone, and nothing is shared with other merchants.
Why the permission screen appeared again
Shopify asks you to re-approve whenever an app's permission list changes — including when it is reduced. A re-consent prompt is not by itself a sign that the app is asking for more.
Removing access
Uninstalling Hype Cart Drawer from Apps in your Shopify admin revokes every permission immediately. Your Hype configuration is deleted with it — see Uninstalling Hype.
