Hype Cart

Billing history and invoices

Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read

Every charge Hype Cart Drawer has made is listed under Billing history, at the bottom of the Plan page. The money itself is collected by Shopify, not by Hype, and appears on your store's regular Shopify bill.

Reading Billing history

The table has three columns:

ColumnWhat it is
DateWhen the charge was posted.
DescriptionWhat it was for — see the list below.
AmountThe amount posted, in USD.

If nothing has ever been charged, the table says No charges yet. A store that has stayed under 101 paid orders every cycle will see exactly that, indefinitely.

Descriptions you will see:

  • Starter tier, Growth tier, Scale tier — the cycle reached that tier. Where a cycle climbed through more than one tier, you will see a line per tier and the amounts add up to the top tier's price, not to the sum of the tier prices.
  • Launch offer — the flat first-cycle price from a launch promotion.
  • Usage billing — a charge on an older Hype Discounts plan.

Where the invoice is

Hype does not issue invoices. Shopify does.

App subscriptions are billed by Shopify along with your Shopify subscription, on your store's own billing cycle and in your store's billing currency. To find the paperwork:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Billing.
  2. Open Bills (or Billing history, depending on your Shopify plan).
  3. Find the bill covering the date of the Hype charge. App charges appear as line items on it, named after the subscription — for example Hype Cart Drawer or Hype Suite.
  4. Download the bill as a PDF from there.

That PDF is the document to give your accountant. Shopify's help center covers the details of app billing and where to find bills: Shopify billing.

Why the Hype total and the Shopify bill can look different

  • Different periods. Hype's cycle is 30 days from the day you approved the subscription. Shopify's bill covers Shopify's own billing period. A single Shopify bill can carry charges from two Hype cycles, or none at all.
  • Currency. Hype's prices are in USD. Shopify converts to your billing currency at its own rate, so the figure on the bill may not be a round number.
  • Taxes. Any tax Shopify applies is added on the Shopify side and is not shown in Hype's Billing history.
  • Timing. A charge is posted by Hype the moment your order count reaches a tier. Shopify collects it on its next billing run, which can be days later.

The maximum you can be charged

Each Hype subscription has a ceiling for a 30-day period — the top tier's price, which Shopify displayed as the maximum amount when you approved. Nothing is ever posted beyond it. If your store is approaching that ceiling, Shopify emails you; that email comes from Shopify, not Hype.

Disputing a charge

Open a support conversation from the app and include the Date, Description and Amount exactly as they appear in Billing history, plus what you expected instead. That is enough to trace a charge to the cycle and the order count it came from. See Getting help.

Note that a tier reached during a cycle is not refunded for that cycle, even if orders were later cancelled — see Cancelling and refunds.
