Translating your drawer
Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read
Every shopper-facing string in the drawer can be translated per language, from a small modal next to the field itself. Look for the translate icon beside a text field's label; it only appears when your store publishes more than one language.
Translating a field
- Open the cart and expand the module (or panel) holding the text.
- Click the translate icon beside the field's label. The modal opens as Translate: Title, or whatever the field is called.
- The default language is shown at the top for reference — for example:
English (default): "Your cart". - Fill in a value for each of your other languages.
- Click Done, then Save the cart.
The modal offers exactly the languages your store publishes, primary first. Adding a language in Shopify makes it appear here; unpublished languages never do.
Auto-translate empty
Auto-translate empty fills every language you have left blank, machine-translating from the current default text. It leaves anything you already wrote alone, so you can machine-translate the bulk and then correct individual languages by hand.
The button is disabled when there is nothing to fill or when the default text is empty. If it fails, the app says "Auto-translate failed. Try again."
It is not offered on a Custom HTML block's markup — machine translation mangles tags and attributes. Translate HTML by hand.
Treat machine translation as a first draft. It does not know your product names, your brand voice, or which of your terms are deliberate.
Empty means fall back
The modal's note says it: "Languages left empty fall back to the default text."
There is no such thing as a half-translated drawer that shows blanks. A field you never touched simply shows the default-language text to everyone. That makes it safe to translate the strings that matter most — the checkout button, the goal headlines, the announcement bar — and leave the rest.
What can be translated
- The drawer Title.
- Every module's text fields: the announcement Message, the progress bar's headlines, empty-cart text, the upsell title and button, protection title and description, discount labels, summary labels, the checkout label and footnote, and both custom blocks.
- Per-item strings: each trust badge's Label, each goal's Label and Reward name, and each upsell product's Badge. Their translate buttons sit on the item's own row.
Product titles, variant names and prices are not translated by Hype. Those come from Shopify and follow your Shopify translations and market settings.
Previewing a language
Use Language in the Preview settings section at the top of the left column. The preview then merges your draft's translations for that language over the base copy, exactly the way your storefront does — so you can check a long German checkout label before you publish it.
Translations and A/B tests
Each variant carries its own translations. If you translate a field while a variant pill is selected, that value belongs to the variant. Switch back to A to edit the base cart's translations.
Region and language fallback
Shoppers on a regional locale fall back to the base language: a shopper on fr-CA sees your fr translations when there is no separate fr-CA set. You do not have to translate every regional variant.
