Hype Cart

Reading the numbers

Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read

Every cart carries its own figures, in two places: the columns on the home page's list, and a strip at the top of the editor when you open a cart. All of them are all-time totals for that cart — there is no date filter.

What each number means

Visitors — the number of distinct browsing sessions in which the drawer was shown. One shopper visiting twice on different days counts twice; the same shopper opening the drawer four times in one session counts once.

Opens — how many times the drawer was actually opened. Compared against Visitors it tells you how often shoppers engage with the cart at all. This one appears in the editor's strip only, not as a column on the list.

CR — conversion rate: attributed orders ÷ Visitors, shown to one decimal place.

AOV — average order value: Total revenue ÷ attributed orders.

Add. revenue — additional revenue: the value of lines that were added through the drawer, such as an upsell card or the shipping protection toggle. This is the number that answers "what did the drawer itself earn me?"

Total revenue — the total value of orders attributed to this cart, not just the lines added in the drawer.

Rev. / visitorTotal revenue ÷ Visitors. The single most useful figure for comparing two carts, because it folds conversion and order value together. This one appears as a column on the list only, not in the editor's strip.

Why a number shows "–"

A dash means "not enough information yet", never zero:

  • CR, AOV and Rev. / visitor show a dash until their inputs exist — no visitors yet, or no attributed orders yet.
  • Add. revenue and Total revenue show a dash until the cart has at least one attributed order.
  • Visitors and Opens are plain counts and show 0.

A dash across a whole row on a cart that has been live for a while usually means the drawer is not rendering. See The drawer isn't showing on my store.

How orders are attributed

When the drawer renders for a shopper, it tags the cart with the cart id it is running. If that cart becomes an order, the order is attributed to it.

Two consequences:

  • Only orders that passed through the drawer count. An order placed from a page where the drawer never rendered belongs to no cart.
  • Other Hype apps do not double-count. Attribution is filtered to cart-drawer records, so a store running Hype Discounts, Bundles or Upsell alongside this app sees each app's own contribution rather than the same order counted several times.

Per-variant numbers

When an A/B test is running, the Experiment results table in the editor's A/B test card breaks the cart down by variant, with Orders, Revenue and AOV per variant.

The note under that table matters: "Attributed line revenue per variant, not full order totals." Use it to compare variants against each other, not against your Shopify reports. See A/B testing a cart.

Comparing against Shopify

These numbers will not match your Shopify reports exactly, and they are not meant to. Shopify counts every order; Hype counts orders that passed through a specific cart drawer. Use Shopify for the books and these figures for deciding which cart is doing better.
