Shipping protection

Shipping protection is a toggle in the drawer footer that adds a product you nominate to the cart — typically a small insurance or delivery-guarantee line. Every new cart includes it, switched off and with no product chosen.

Hype does not sell or underwrite anything here. You create the protection product in Shopify, and this module adds and removes it.

Setting it up

1. In Shopify, create the protection product with the price you want to charge. If you offer tiers, create one variant per tier.
2. In the cart editor, expand Shipping protection and turn on its switch.
3. Click Pick product and choose the product. If it has variants, select the exact variant you want to charge for — the first variant you select is the one used.
4. Optionally turn on On by default.
5. Click Save.

Until you pick a product, the panel says "No protection product selected. The toggle will be display-only." The toggle still renders and remembers its state for the visit, but nothing is added to the cart and nothing is charged. That is useful for a mock-up and dangerous to ship — a shopper who switches it on gets no protection and no charge.

The price is taken from the variant you picked and is not editable in Hype. If you change the price in Shopify, the drawer follows: the live line price always wins over the stored one, so the drawer can never quote a number Shopify would not charge.

On by default

On by default — "Adds it to the cart once per visit. Shoppers can still turn it off."

The detail behind that sentence:

• The line is added once the cart has something in it, not on an empty cart.
• It is added once per visit. If a shopper turns it off, it is not silently added back on the next page.
• The decision is remembered in the shopper's browser for the session.

Check your local rules before switching this on. Pre-ticked paid add-ons are restricted in some markets, and the UK and EU in particular require the shopper to opt in rather than opt out.

Text

Two editable strings:

• Title — default Shipping protection - {amount}. {amount} prints the current price; the separator (-) is part of the template, so if you retype the title without it the price runs into your text. Remove {amount} entirely to show no price.
• Description — default Covers loss or damage in transit.

When it is hidden

The module renders nothing while the cart is empty.

Placement

Shipping protection starts in the Footer, above the discount field and summary — where the shopper is deciding, not browsing. You can drag it anywhere, but the footer is where shoppers expect an add-on line.
